Yiddish Break at Brandeis!
March 14-16th at Brandeis University
Redstu yidish? Do you know Yiddish?
Does your bubbe?
Are you curious?
Do you just love to hear others speak it?
Come spend a weekend at Brandeis with young Yiddish speakers, students and enthusiasts from all over, for a weekend of workshops, activities and games, all with a Yiddishe twist!
Including:
Learning:
Learn some key phrases and idioms to impress the grandparents, take part in a leyenkrayz (a reading circle), and read or listen in on a Yiddish story from one of the great authors, and learn the aleph-beys, just the way the rebbe taught it! Don't think your Yiddish is good enough? Take part in our new and improved 45-minute crash course in conversational Yiddish.
Music:
We'll have a sing-along around the campfire (that's right, campfire!!) after Shabbos, and plenty of opportunities to sing Yiddish lider and dance to the freylekhs of Brandeis klezmer musicians, plus, a unique opportunity to learn the singing styles of Hasidic women.
Activism:
Learn how to be an activist for Yiddish culture, hear about issues affecting Jews in social justice movements today, discuss issues that matter and what's being done about them with other young Yiddish & social justice enthusiasts.
Film Screenings:
Bring out di kokoshes (popcorn)! Watch all your favorite Yiddish classics, now on DVD!
Theater:
Watch young actors from the National Yiddish Theater and from the New Yiddish Rep perform skits and sketches from Dzigan and Shumacher to Nakhum Stuchkov! Then take part in one yourself!

Ever wondered how to say "baseball" in Yiddish? Come play "hilke-pilke" with us, and maybe a game of Yiddish Apples to Apples too! (Yes, they really have it in Yiddish)

Sing zmiros, listen to a shabbos shiur (lecture) on the weekly Torah Portion, and enjoy Glatt Kosher meals, all in Yiddish (or Ashkenazi Hebrew).
